Workshop Mechanic/ Mechanic

Job Title:         Workshop Mechanic/ Mechanic                       Reports to:      Regional Manager

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Workshop Technician / Mechanic to join our workshop team. The ideal candidate will have a strong diesel mechanical background as their core trade and possess sound auto-electrical diagnostic and repair skills across a broad range of vehicles and equipment.

This position requires a hands-on technician capable of diagnosing, repairing, servicing, and maintaining a broad range of vehicles and equipment while ensuring high standards of workmanship, safety, and customer satisfaction. Most of the work for this position will be mobile rather than purely Workshop based.

Key Responsibilities

·        Perform routine servicing and preventative maintenance on diesel and petrol vehicles.

·        Diagnose and repair engine, transmission, driveline, steering, suspension, braking, and cooling system.

·        Overhaul and repair diesel engines and major components.

·        Conduct inspections and identify mechanical defects requiring corrective action.

·        Carry out fleet maintenance in accordance with service schedules and manufacturer specifications.

·        Perform quality control checks following repairs.

·        Diagnose and repair vehicle electrical and electronic systems.

·        Use diagnostic scan tools to identify engine management and electronic system.

·        Repair wiring harnesses, sensors, relays, control modules, and electrical circuits.

·        Conduct battery, alternator, and starter motor testing and repairs.

·        Use modern diagnostic equipment and software to identify efficiently.

·        Interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and service bulletins.

·        Complete root-cause analysis and recommend preventative solutions.

·        Complete job cards accurately and in a timely manner.

·        Ensure workshop tools and equipment are properly used and maintained.

Minimum Requirements

·        Craft Certificate, Trade Test Certificate or Diploma in Diesel Mechanics, Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.

·        Minimum 5 years' practical experience in vehicle maintenance and repair.

·        Strong diesel mechanical diagnostic and repair skills.

·        Good auto-electrical and repair experience.

·        Valid driver's licence.

·        Registered with the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) as a Technician, Craftsperson, or equivalent category, or eligible for registration.

Preferences

·        Someone who is honest, dependable, pro-active and disciplined, and that is performance-driven and results-oriented.

·        The candidate should have a high attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and under pressure.

·        A positive attitude and strong work ethic with high attention to detail and strong accuracy.

·        Experience working on electric forklifts, electric vehicles, battery systems or industrial electrical equipment will be an added advantage.”
