Driver

Job Purpose:

To safely and efficiently transport company goods (hardware products, tools, building materials) to customers, warehouses and project sites, ensuring timely delivery, accurate documentation and proper vehicle care.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Deliver goods to customers, hardware stores, construction sites and warehouses in Lusaka and upcountry (including Copperbelt) as assigned;
2. Load and offload cargo, ensuring goods are properly secured, counted and signed for upon delivery;
3. Verify delivery notes, invoices and waybills against goods before departure and obtain customer signatures/stamps on delivery;
4. Collect payment receipts or proof of payment where instructed, and hand over all documents to the Accounts/Logistics office the same day;
5. Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections (tyres, brakes, lights, oil, water) and report any defects immediately;
6. Keep the vehicle clean, fuelled and roadworthy; ensure routine service and inspection schedules are followed;
7. Adhere to all Zambian Road Traffic Act rules, speed limits, axle-load limits and company safety policies at all times;
8. Maintain an accurate vehicle logbook (mileage, fuel consumption, trips) and submit weekly trip reports;
9. Assist warehouse staff with stock movement, loading/offloading and stock counts when not on delivery trips;
10. Represent the company professionally when dealing with customers and traffic authorities.

Requirements:

• Minimum Grade 12 Certificate (Diploma/Certificate in Transport & Logistics is an added advantage);
• Valid Zambian driving licence with classes C, CE.
• Minimum 3 years proven professional driving experience, preferably in goods/cargo delivery, distribution or logistics (experience in hardware, FMCG or building materials is a strong plus);
• Clean driving record; must provide references from previous employers;
• Good knowledge of Lusaka roads and routes to major towns (Kitwe, Ndola, Kabwe, Livingstone);
• Physically fit — able to load/offload heavy cargo and work long hours including early mornings and weekends when required;
• Honest, disciplined and reliable; no criminal record (police clearance will be required);
• Basic numeracy and record-keeping skills; able to read and fill delivery documents in English;
• Ability to communicate in English and Nyanja/Bemba is an advantage;
• Must reside in Lusaka with a verifiable address.
