Mechanical Craftsman

Itezhi Tezhi Power Corporation Limited (ITPC) is a Joint Venture Company owned by ZESCO Limited and The TATA Power Company Limited to build and operate the 120 Mega Watt Hydro Power Station on the Itezhi Tezhi Dam of the Kafue River in Itezhi Tezhi District.

The company seeks to recruit a suitably qualified candidate for the position of Mechanical Craftsman to be based at the Itezhi Tezhi Hydropower Station in Itezhi Tezhi District.

1.0  Purpose of the Job

To maintain the all electro – mechanical & hydro- mechanical equipment of plant in working conditions by doing the routine checks & machine maintenance as instructed by mechanical engineers or departmental technologist. Monitor equipment operation and performance and make necessary adjustments to ensure optimal performance.

2.0  Job Summary

• Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on a wide range of electro-mechanical and hydro-mechanical plant equipment, including turbines, pumps, compressors, valves, and more.
• Execute planned preventive, breakdown, and opportunity maintenance tasks as directed by engineers and technologists.
• Participate in fabrication, rigging, slinging, and lifting activities.
• Troubleshoot mechanical issues independently and as part of a team to resolve problems efficiently.
• Ensure all work is completed safely by actively participating in Job Safety Analysis (JSA), using correct PPE, and adhering to all ITPC safety procedures and permits (PTW).
• Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, checklists, defect notifications, and other required documentation.
• Utilize the maintenance management system to report on work status and provide feedback for planning.
• Coordinate daily with other departments, such as Operations and Stores, to ensure workflow efficiency and spare part availability.

2.0       Reporting

The position is in Grade IT 9 non-management structure and reports to the Mechanical Technologist of the Itezhi Tezhi Power Corporation Limited.

3.0   Knowledge and Skills

a)  Minimum Academic Qualifications:

• Certificate in Crafts from a reputable college
• Valid membership of Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ)
• Should be able to perform minor machining/welding related jobs

b)  Minimum Relevant Pre-Job Experience:

• Minimum 3 years’ experience

c)     Communication Skills:

• Writing: English
