Key Responsibilities
Technical
· Mechanical maintenance and repair of equipment (steep tanks, germination vessels, kilns, conveyors, elevators).
· Installation, alignment, and servicing of gearboxes, bearings, shafts, chains, belts, and couplings.
· Preventive and predictive maintenance (PM schedules, lubrication management, condition monitoring).
· Fault-finding and breakdown troubleshooting under production pressure.
· Basic hydraulics and pneumatics (valves, cylinders, compressors, air lines).
· Welding and fabrication (MIG/TIG/arc) for plant repairs and modifications.
· Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and manuals.
Plant & Process Knowledge
· Understanding of production processes: steeping, germination, kilning, screening, and storage.
· Experience with grain handling systems (silos, augers, bucket elevators).
· Awareness of food-grade standards and contamination prevention.
· Knowledge of dust control and explosion-risk environments (ATEX awareness is a strong advantage).
Electrical & Control Exposure (Advantageous)
· Basic electrical fault-finding (motors, sensors, limit switches).
· Motor maintenance and alignment.
· Understanding of PLC-controlled machinery (mechanical interface, not programming).
· Lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) procedures.
Safety & Compliance
· Strong adherence to health and safety regulations.
· Safe work practices in confined spaces and at heights.
· Knowledge of permit-to-work systems.
· Housekeeping and maintenance documentation.
Qualifications and Experience
· Trade qualification as a Mechanical Artisan / Fitter / Millwright.
· 3–5+ years’ experience in maltings, breweries, food processing, grain handling, or heavy industrial plants.
· Experience working shift work, standby, or call-outs.
· Proven ability to work independently and as part of a maintenance team.
