Industrial Relations Specialist (Middle Management)
Zambia Sugar Plc. is a subsidiary of Illovo Sugar Africa (Pty) Ltd Group and is the leading sugar producer in Zambia. Its main activities are the growing of sugar cane, the production and marketing of sugar and other sugar downstream products.
POSITION: INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS SPECIALIST ( MIDDLE MANAGEMENT)
NAKAMBALA – MAZABUKA
Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for the position of Industrial Relations Specialist in the
Human Resource Department. This position is based at Nakambala and reports to the Human Resources Director.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing Specialist Industrial Relations support to the business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Promote harmonious relationships in the workplace through effective stakeholder engagement and relationship building programmes.
- Manage and enhance relationships between trade union and management.
- Guide on IR procedures and policies that keep abreast of legislative and regulatory changes and ensure fair consistent treatment of employees.
- Maintain and update all IR policies and procedures, ensuring the enforcement and adherence of these policies and procedures. Educate management and employees on relevant policies and standards.
- Monitor IR trends within the company in order to diagnose, develop and implement suitable solutions/programmes. Identify IR training needs for managers, employees and shop stewards.
- Partner with the business to develop IR competence/capability for managers, shop stewards and HR.
- Lead the collective bargaining process/ support and guide the wage negotiations process.
- Partner with the business to identify labour related risks to mitigate, manage, and/ or eliminate.
- Lead/ provide guidance and support in the disciplinary process and procedure.
- Provide guidance for managing IR unrest.
- Manage IR elements of the HR budget.
- Be the custodian of IR functional excellence (ensure IR master data accuracy).
- Support change initiatives affecting employees’ conditions of employment.
- Represent the company at external labour dispute structure.
- Support the investigations for internal audit call reports related to HR policy/procedures/process deviations.
- Promote and adhere to Group’s procedures, policies, and guidelines, including, without limitation, those relating to Safety Health Environment Risk & Quality (SHERQ), Competition Law and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC).
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Industrial Psychology Law or Industrial Relations related field or equivalent. An MBA will be an added advantage.
- Preferably 5 years relevant experience (preferably with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in an FMCG environment).
- In-depth and sound knowledge and understanding of Zambian Labour Laws, Legislation and Regulations.
- Impressive, demonstrable track record and skills/experience gained within a similar position(s) at a similar level.
- Excellent standards of personal conduct, confidentiality and integrity.
- Must be a full member of the Zambia Institute of Human Resource Management.
- Suitably qualified applicants must provide certificates which have been verified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority- ZAQA).
