Human Resources Officer
Job Purpose
The Human Resources Officer will help to align the Company’s people strategy with its business strategy. Together with line managers, the Human Resources Officer will work on setting priorities, driving values, and delivering business results.
The Human Resources Officer will play an essential role in establishing and driving HR programs/talent initiatives forward within specific Company functions, while always ensuring they align with the Company’s business objectives. The Human Resources Officer will work closely with management and employees, providing hands-on and strategic input, insight, and advice on people-related issues: talent management, employee relations, coaching/development, compensation, conflict management, organizational development, and training, while always ensuring they align with the Company’s business objectives.
Roles and Responsibilities
1. Strategic Planning;
The Human Resources Officer needs to be able to help the organisation become future-ready by focusing on the existing workforce in the organisation and prepare them for the future through:
- Reskilling and upskilling: identify training needs and assist with Learning & Development to assist in aligning training programs with business objectives.
- Strategic workforce planning: ensure the Company’s workforce has the right size, shape, cost, and agility for the future. Create and present the annual HR plan and strategy.
- Succession planning: select and develop key talent to ensure there are talents to fill in critical roles.
2. Coaching and consulting leadership about HR matters
The Human Resources Officer should have a clear understanding of the way current and future challenges affect the people in the organization. Their job is to empower leadership to handle any people matters in the organization. Responsibilities under this head include:
- Conducting weekly or bi-weekly meetings with business leaders and provide HR advice where necessary.
- Be up-to-date on employment laws and regulations, as well as other legal requirements regarding people management, to help leaders ensure compliance.
- Provide guidance on the creation and implementation of HR processes and policies.
- Partner with senior leadership to develop and implement effective HR policies and practices that will support the strategic growth of the Company.
- Offer thought leadership regarding organisational and people-related strategy and execution.
3. Building a competitive organization
The Human Resources Officer will help the organization to win clients, acquire and retain the best talent. Therefore, to help the Company stay on top of the market, their work is three-fold:
- Conducting day-to-day performance management guidance to line managers (for example mentoring, career planning, coaching, etc.).
- Helping line managers deal with organizational, people, and change-related issues.
- Optimizing organisational design to increase productivity and improve performance of the Company.
The Human Resources Officer is also crucial in ensuring that the business can attract and retain the best talent. In this regard, the incumbent will need to work on:
- Collaborating with other functional team members on implementing innovative and inclusive recruitment strategies.
- Developing or assisting in developing a future-proof compensation and benefits strategy.
- Implementing reward and recognition interventions to increase bottom-line results and employee engagement.
- Provide timely information and /or education for all levels of a company on HR issues.
4. Being a company culture and employee experience champion
Helping build and maintain a strong organizational culture, as well as continuously improving the employee experience, is a core responsibility of the Human Resources Officer. The Company will thus require the incumbent to:
- Provide advice and suggestions for culture-related initiatives, such as cultural transformation.
- Implement human resources management interventions on employee wellness, diversity and inclusion, or talent management.
- Collaborate with the Functional Heads to champion and accelerate a culture of excellence in which people feel engaged and inspired to deliver top business results.
- Working together with management and personnel to solve conflicts and help facilitate positive employee relations, maintain a good working environment, build morale, and decrease unwanted turnover.
- Develop people strategies and design approaches for diagnosing and enhancing organizational effectiveness and employee satisfaction.
5. Facilities Management & Compliance to SHEQ
The Human Resources Officer will be responsible for providing professional facilities management, health and safety management and environmental management across all of our office locations. He/she is required to oversee and provide assurance that agreed standards of health and safety and environmental management are upheld across all offices. This will entail:
- Maintaining a safe, tidy, secure and professional working office environment across all office locations, including hubs and remote offices.
- Security management, including locking and unlocking activities.
- Operational management of the head office reception.
- Management of a safe, effective and efficient vehicle fleet.
- Ensuring that all facilities procurement is conducted on a best value basis and for ensuring that suppliers are instructed on a timely basis.
- Management of the facilities operational budget and for achieving financial KPIs.
- Maintaining the office facilities standards and maintaining up-to-date office procedures.
Education Requirements
- Full Grade 12 Certificate.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management from a duly accredited higher learning institution.
- Additional HR certifications are a plus.
- A member of the Zambia Institute of Human Resources Management.
- Minimum 3 years of well-rounded HR experience in positions of increasing responsibility.
- At least 2 years of experience in a leadership role.
