We are looking for a Village Matron to oversee the following functions under the supervision of the Village Manager.

Job Title:    Matron-Re-Advertised.

Reports To  :   Village Manager

Purpose

To support the Village Manager, manage efficiently the staffing, organization and resources of the boarding village, to provide for the safety, good discipline and well-being of all children in the boarding village. Above all, there is an expectation of a parent figure who is generous with their time and responsive to the needs of the children.

Key Responsibilities

1.     To reside within the village at all times during term time (excluding off-duty periods) and, together with the Village Manager, take responsibility for the overall welfare and personal development of all scholars in the village.

2.     To support the Village Manager in ensuring that the principles and policies of boarding life in the village reflect Pestalozzi World’s objectives and ethos, and to reinforce these values through regular Pestalozzi lessons and activities for both students and staff.

 3.  To assist the Village Manager in developing, managing, and monitoring staff schedules and duty rotas to ensure:

·       High standards of child care within the village

·       Provision of a nutritious and balanced diet

·        Timely and well-prepared meals

·        Proper upkeep, maintenance, and smooth running of the houses

·       Adequate cover for house mothers during their days off

·        Prompt medical attention for children whenever required

4.  To support the Village Manager in developing and maintaining effective internal working policies and ensuring that the House Mothers’ Manual remains up to date, with clear communication of policies and expectations.

5. To support the Village Manager in ensuring that a full and varied program of extracurricular activities is available, actively pursued by children, and that children are meaningfully engaged, especially on weekends.

6. To assist the Village Manager in ensuring that village resources (library, computers, games, films, and sports equipment) are accessible to scholars and properly safeguarded.

7. To maintain contact with parents and keep them fully informed about their child’s progress and welfare, ensuring that family matters or concerns are promptly communicated to relevant staff.

8. To support and uphold the disciplinary policy and rules of the village by encouraging positive behavior, rewarding achievements, and applying fair and consistent sanctions where necessary, thereby fostering respect for the village code of conduct.

9. To assist the Village Manager in planning, implementing, and reviewing staff supervision to guarantee the safety and security of all children at all times, including meal times, weekends, and school outings.

10. Liaise with house mothers (in consultation with the Village Manager) to ensure that children’s medical requirements are met and to encourage healthy living practices among scholars.

11. To help ensure that the individual circumstances, needs, strengths, and weaknesses of each scholar are identified and addressed, so that every child’s talents and potential are developed and maximized.

12. To support the Village Manager in keeping accurate records of children’ progress, welfare, health, emotional well-being, achievements, and disciplinary issues; and to prepare termly reports as well as other reports or references as required.

13. Together with the Village Manager, to ensure that the houses are fully prepared before the start of the school year and properly closed down at the end of the year. This may require returning prior to term commencement and remaining after term ends. The Matron must be present on both the first and last day of term, regardless of scheduled days off.

A Must Qualifications and Requirements

·       Minimum of a Diploma in Social Work, Nursing, Teaching, or any child development qualification (a higher qualification will be an added advantage).

·       At least five (5) years of proven experience working with children in a reputable child development or welfare organization.

·       Demonstrated ability and passion for working in rural, village, or camp settings, with hands-on experience in caring for and nurturing children.

·       Strong interpersonal and psychosocial support skills, with the ability to create a safe, supportive, and empowering environment for children.

·       Willingness and ability to reside onsite for extended periods, specifically 22 days onsite and 6 days offsite, in addition to annual leave entitlement.

·       A compassionate, resilient, and adaptable individual with a commitment to child protection and development.

·       Proven Experience as a Matron in a boarding setup and in charge of children’s welfare.

 Job Title:   Chef

Reports To  :   Village Matron/Deputy Matron

Purpose of the Role

To plan, prepare, and produce high-quality meals in accordance with organizational standards, ensuring safe, nutritious, and culturally appropriate food for staff, students, or beneficiaries. The Chef ensures efficient kitchen operations, proper food handling, and adherence to hygiene standards in line with Zambian regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Meal Preparation and Planning

  • Prepare and cook meals according to approved menus and dietary requirements.
  • Ensure timely production of meals for all scheduled meal times.
  • Maintain portion control and consistent food quality.
  • Plan weekly or monthly menus incorporating local and nutritious foods.

Kitchen Operations

  • Oversee daily kitchen activities and supervise kitchen assistants where applicable.
  • Ensure availability of required ingredients and request supplies in a timely manner.
  • Monitor food stock levels and manage storage to prevent waste.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the kitchen, cooking utensils, and equipment.

Food Safety and Hygiene

  • Ensure all food is stored, handled, and prepared according to Zambia’s Public Health and Food Safety Standards.
  • Maintain high hygiene standards at all times.
  • Conduct regular inspections of kitchen areas to ensure compliance.

Cost Control and Reporting

  • Use food supplies efficiently to minimize waste and control costs.
  • Keep simple records of meals prepared, stock used, and requisitions made.
  • Participate in budgeting for kitchen operations when required.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Work closely with the administration and relevant departments to support events and special meals.
  • Provide guidance to kitchen helpers on meal preparation and hygiene practices.

Qualifications and Experience

Minimum Requirements

  • Certificate or Diploma in Food Production, Culinary Arts, Hospitality, or related field.
  • At least 2 years’ experience working as a Chef or Cook in a school, institution, hotel, or similar environment.
  • Knowledge of Zambian cuisine and nutrition standards.
  • Valid Food Handler’s Certificate (or willingness to obtain one).

Technical Skills

  • Ability to prepare high-quality meals for large groups.
  • Strong understanding of food safety, hygiene, and storage standards.
  • Menu planning and kitchen inventory management skills.
  • Basic record-keeping and reporting skills.

Behavioural Competencies

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet meal schedules.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • High integrity and adherence to organizational values.

Working Conditions

  • Based in a kitchen environment with long periods of standing.
  • May require early morning, weekend, or holiday work depending on meal schedules.

 Job Title: Kitchen Assistant

Reports To  :Chef

Purpose of the Role

To support the Chef in the preparation, cooking, and serving of meals by maintaining a clean, safe, and organized kitchen environment. The Kitchen Assistant ensures adherence to hygiene and food safety standards in line with Zambian Public Health regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Food Preparation Support

  • Assist in basic food preparation such as washing, peeling, cutting, and portioning ingredients.
  • Help in cooking simple dishes under the supervision of the Chef.
  • Ensure ingredients are properly stored and labelled.

Kitchen Hygiene and Cleaning

  • Maintain cleanliness of the kitchen, including floors, surfaces, utensils, and equipment.
  • Wash dishes, pots, pans, and cutlery after each meal service.
  • Ensure waste is properly disposed of and bins are cleaned regularly.

Operational Support

  • Assist in setting up food service areas and serving meals when required.
  • Support the Chef in receiving, unpacking, and storing food items and supplies.
  • Report any kitchen equipment faults or safety concerns to the Chef.

Compliance and Safety

  • Adhere to organizational food safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards.
  • Ensure compliance with Zambia’s Public Health regulations.
  • Wear appropriate protective clothing while on duty.

Qualifications and Experience

Minimum Requirements

  • Certificate in Food Production, Hospitality, Home Economics, or related field (added advantage but not mandatory).
  • Experience working in a kitchen, cafeteria, school, or catering environment preferred.
  • Basic understanding of food hygiene and safety standards.
  • Valid Food Handler’s Certificate (or willingness to obtain one).

Skills and Competencies

Job Title: Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Teacher

Reports To  :Head Teacher

Purpose of the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and passionate ICT teacher to join our team as an ICT and Global Perspectives Teacher. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching ICT and Global Perspectives to our learners, developing and delivering high-quality lessons that inspire and engage. The role involves working collaboratively with colleagues to create a dynamic and inclusive learning environment that promotes academic excellence and global awareness.

Key Responsibilities :

·       Teach ICT and Global Perspectives to learners, using a range of teaching methods and resources

·       Develop and deliver high-quality lesson plans that meet the needs of all learners

·       Assess and monitor learner progress, providing feedback and support as needed

·       Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement cross-curricular projects and initiatives

·       Contribute to the development of the ICT and Global Perspective curriculum

·        Participate in staff training and professional development activities

·        Contribute to the overall well-being and safety of learners

Requirements :

·       Grade 12 Certificate with a strong background in ICT and Global Perspectives

·       Registered with the Teaching Council of Zambia (TCZ)

·        Bachelor’s degree in Education (social studies) Computing, or related field (preferred)

·       Minimum 3 years of teaching experience, preferably in a similar setting

·        Strong knowledge of ICT and Global Perspectives curricula

·       Excellent lesson planning and delivery skills

·        Ability to work collaboratively and flexibly

·       Strong communication and interpersonal skills

·       Commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.
