1.    Job Title: Cleaner

Job Summary

The Cleaner is a vital member of the International Hospitals Zambia team, responsible for maintaining a safe, sanitary, and aesthetically pleasing environment for patients, staff, and visitors. This role requires strict adherence to hospital infection control policies and procedures to prevent the spread of infections and ensure the highest standards of hygiene are consistently met across all hospital areas. 

Key Duties and Responsibilities

•       Perform daily cleaning and disinfection of all assigned areas, including patient rooms, operating theatres (post-procedure cleaning), waiting areas, restrooms, offices, corridors, and high-touch surfaces (e.g., doorknobs, light switches, elevator buttons).

•       Properly manage and dispose of all waste streams, including general waste and clinical/hazardous waste, in accordance with hospital policies and local environmental regulations.

•       Maintain a safe environment by placing "Wet Floor" signs appropriately and promptly addressing any spills or hazards.

•       Report any maintenance issues, damages, or equipment malfunctions to the facility management or supervisor immediately.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • A full Grade 12 Certificate is required. Any certification in hygiene, sanitation, or housekeeping is an advantage

2.    Job Title: Receptionist

Job Summary

The Receptionist is the primary point of contact for patients, visitors, and callers at International Hospitals Zambia (IHZ). This role is crucial for creating a welcoming, professional, and efficient atmosphere in the hospital's front lobby or clinic area. The Receptionist manages administrative duties, patient flow, appointment scheduling, and patient registration while maintaining strict adherence to hospital policies and patient confidentiality.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

•       Front Desk Operations:

•       Greet all patients and visitors warmly and professionally upon arrival, directing them to the appropriate departments or individuals.

•       Manage a multi-line telephone system, directing calls efficiently, taking messages accurately, and answering general inquiries with clarity and patience.

•       Patient Registration and Check-in:

•       Register new patients and update information for returning patients, ensuring all demographics, contact information, and insurance details are accurate and current in the hospital management system.

•       Verify insurance eligibility and collect co-payments or private payments as require

•       Manage incoming and outgoing mail and deliveries.

•       Maintain the reception area, ensuring it remains tidy, organized, and stocked with necessary forms and information brochures.

•       Assist with general clerical duties such as filing, scanning, and data entry.

•       Communication & Confidentiality:

•       Serve as a primary information resource.

•       Education: A full Grade 12 Certificate is required. A Diploma in Secretarial Studies, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.

•       A minimum of two (2) years of experience in a front-office, customer service, or reception role is essential.

•       Experience within a hospital, clinic, or healthcare setting is a significant advantage.

•       Skills & Competencies:

•       Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills.

•       Strong verbal and written communication skills (English fluency required).

3.    Job Title: Hospital Driver

Job Summary

The Hospital Driver is a critical support staff member responsible for the safe and timely transportation of patients, staff, medical supplies, and documents. This role requires strict adherence to all Zambian road traffic laws, hospital safety protocols, and the highest standards of professionalism and discretion, ensuring the efficient operation of the hospital's transport logistics.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

•       Safe Transportation: Safely operate hospital vehicles, including cars and ambulances (if required and qualified), to transport patients (non-emergency and emergency if needed), staff, supplies, and documents to and from designated locations.

•       Vehicle Maintenance and Safety:

•       Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections (checking fuel, oil, water, tyres, lights, etc.) to ensure all vehicles are in roadworthy condition.

•       Coordinate and facilitate timely vehicle servicing, maintenance, and repairs with the Transport or Facilities Manager.

•       Maintain accurate logbooks for all journeys, recording mileage, fuel consumption, and maintenance costs.

•       Logistics and Efficiency:

•       Plan routes effectively to ensure efficient and timely delivery/pick-up, minimizing

•       Assist with the loading and unloading of supplies and equipment, ensuring safe handling and transport.

•       Ensure all vehicles are kept clean, tidy, and hygienic at all times, in line with hospital cleanliness standards.

Licensing:

Must possess a valid Zambian Driver’s License (Class C, preferably Class C1 or better).

A clean driving record with no history of major accidents or traffic violations.

Experience:

A minimum of three (3) years of proven professional driving experience, preferably in a corporate, transport logistics, or healthcare setting.

  • Education: A full Grade 12 Certificate is required. A certificate in defensive driving or basic mechanics is an advantage.
