Cavendish University Zambia has the following lecturing job opportunities under its School of Arts, Education and Social Sciences; School of Business, Information and Technology, and School of Law

Lecturers are responsible for teaching and learning, research and service to the university and society. At Cavendish University, lecturers are required to accomplish their duties in teaching and learning in a manner that demonstrates continuous improvement and global best practices in pedagogy and digital skills and tools. All Lecturers are encouraged to engage in research activities, to attend conferences and to publish their research findings in journals and books as appropriate. In the sphere of service, Lecturers are expected to carry out administrative duties as assigned by the Head of Department or the Dean’s office, and also to contribute to the University’s annual community service initiatives and goals.

The mission of Cavendish University is to transform and inspire students to reach their full potential in employment, entrepreneurship, and ethical leadership. Lecturers play the primary role in ensuring that the transformation of students as envisioned by the mission is achieved.

Lecturer KPIs include active participation in production and improvement of up-to-date academic content based on standardized university templates for course guides and syllabi, Teaching and Learning, Student Engagement, Research, Teaching Innovation, and involvement in continuous professional development as guided by the Dean or the Deputy Vice Chancellor. A focus on personal development and continuous improvement in digital skills and capabilities (i.e., 21st century skills) is required of all Lecturers as enshrined in the University’s academic model.

4 Lecturer Positions are available in the School of Arts, Education and Social Sciences on the following Programmes:

  1. 2 Positions: Bachelor of Development Studies
  2. 1 Position: Bachelor of Mass Communications and Public Relations
  3. 1 Position: Bachelor of Politics and International Studies

2 Lecturer Positions are available in the School of Business, Information and Technology on the following Programmes:

  1. Bachelor of Accounting and Finance
  2. Bachelor of Computing/ICT

1 Lecturer Position available in the School of Law on the following Programmes:

  1. Bachelor of Laws

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPIs)

  1. Teaching using effective modern teaching methods as described in the academic model.
  2. Fostering learning by deploying global best practices in pedagogy, including up-to-date digital skills and innovative formative and summative assessments.
  3. Leading and/or participating in research, innovation, and professional associations.
  4. Providing service to the university (as guided by HoD and Dean) and to society.
  5. Mentoring students and role-modelling high professional scholarly standards.
  6. Curriculum development and production of academic content according to the University’s templates, and noting that such content belongs to the University.
  7. Ensuring general learning outcomes for employability and entrepreneurship, and for the specific course-unit (or module) among students.
  8. Upholding University values and high ethical standards.
  9. Contributing to fostering a common intellectual culture of high standards.
  10. Participating in continuing professional development (CPD) activities and programs.
  11. Ensuring that academic practices comply with government regulations as guided by the Quality Assurance Director and the Senate.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Teaching and Learning

  1. Teach course-units (modules) as allocated by the HOD or Dean’s office.
  2. Deploy the approved course-guide (syllabus) and content in teaching.
  3. Produce or improve academic content for at least one full course-unit or module as assigned.
  4. Study the University’s academic model and implement the requirements of the academic model in teaching and learning.
  5. Deploy active learning, case studies, blended learning and flipped classrooms as appropriate.
  6. Foster in students the general learning outcomes for employability and entrepreneurship as enshrined in the academic model.
  7. Shift focus from mere coverage of syllabi to ensuring that students are engaged in active participatory learning and problem solving.
  8. Assign innovative formative and summative assessments.
  9. Mentor and guide students in class and encourage them to become ambitious learners.
  10. Maintain weekly office hours for guiding students or online as required.
  11. Supervise under-graduate or graduate students appropriately.
  12. Demonstrate continuous improvement in deploying modern teaching methods as required by the academic model.
  13. Follow the University’s examination policy in all assessments and examinations.
  14. Maintain all academic records and upload them to appropriate databases as guided by the Dean’s office.
  15. Maintain a student-centric approach to teaching and learning.

Curriculum Development and Accreditation of Programs

  1. Follow the lead of the HOD or Dean in developing curriculums, academic content and syllabi, and in preparing programs for accreditation or re-accreditation.
  2. Participate in the effort to create locally-relevant case-studies, and practical-problems sets and digital content for the enrichment of curriculums.
  3. Review and update curriculums and syllabi annually as guided by the office of the Dean or DVC. The aim is to incorporate evolving global best practices in pedagogy.
  4. Note that all academic content including digital content that is developed as part of regular University work belongs to the University.

Research and Innovation

  1. Contribute to the development and implementation of the University’s research plans.
  2. Lead or participate in research and innovation projects and initiatives.
  3. Attend and/or organize academic conferences at the University and externally.
  4. Demonstrate attempts and/or successes at securing internal and external funding for research.
  5. Make presentations at internal-University, national or international conferences.

Academic Administration and Community Service

  1. Perform academic-administration duties as assigned by the HOD or Dean’s office.
  2. Contribute actively in departmental and/school committees.
  3. Promote and market the work and reputation of the or school.
  4. Lead and/or participate in the internal and external community service initiatives and goals of the University.

Quality Assurance and Enhancement

  1. Participate in the development and review of quality assurance frameworks.
  2. Administer assessments and examinations with the highest standards of integrity and.
  3. Keep and share records of students’ attendance, assessments, projects and examinations in accordance with University policies on records and examinations.
  4. Participate in all quality assurance and enhancement efforts of the University.
  5. Engage in examination moderation processes in accordance with University policies.
  6. Report all problems and issues to the Head of Department and/or Dean.

Other Duties:

Perform any other duties commensurate with the position as may be assigned from time to time.

Additional Responsibility for School of Law:

Actively contribute to legal aid initiatives, community legal education programs, and foster strategic partnerships with the judiciary, Bar Associations, and other legal institutions.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  1. Master’s degree (at least 18 months’ duration, with a research component) that is relevant to the given discipline from a registered/accredited university, and either enrolled or ready to enrol for a PhD degree.
  2. Bachelor’s degree with credit or equivalent relevant to the given discipline from a registered/accredited university.
  3. Teaching Methodology Diploma from an accredited institution.
  4. Evidence of capacity to conduct research and to prepare work for publication.
  5. Capability to supervise student projects.
  6. Approved alignment of qualifications as required by government regulations.
  7. Relevant certifications with recognised professional bodies in the field will be an added advantage.
  8. Three (3) referees’ reports.
  9. Teaching experience at tertiary level is preferred.
  10. Industry experience an added advantage.

  6. Passionate about teaching and learning.
  7. Strong interest in research and innovation.
  8. Commitment to lifelong learning, continuous improvement and personal development.
  9. Excellent oral, written and online communication skills.
  10. High standards of integrity.
  11. Willingness to participate in continuing professional development, lifelong learning and the development of a growth mindset.

Additional Competencies and Attributes for Lecturer in Banking and Finance:

  1. Ability to teach Financial Management, Banking Operations, Investment Analysis,and Risk Management.
  2. Strong quantitative and analytical skills
  3. Knowledge of financial markets and regulations in Zambia.

Additional Competencies and Attributes for Lecturer in Computing/ICT:

  1. Ability to teach areas such as Programming (Python, Java, C++), Database Systems, Software Engineering, Data Structures, and Artificial Intelligence.
  2. Strong programming and system development skills.
  3. Knowledge of emerging technologies (AI, Big Data, Cloud Computing).
