Job Description – HSSE Officer (4-Month Contract)

Reports To:  Project Manager / Site Engineer

Location: Lusaka

Duration: 4 Months Contract

Job Purpose

The HSSE Officer will be responsible for implementing, monitoring, and maintaining effective Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental (HSSE) systems on construction and renovation projects. The role ensures compliance with statutory regulations and company standards to promote a safe and healthy work environment for all employees and contractors.

Key Responsibilities

·        Enforce and monitor compliance with the company’s HSSE policies and procedures at all project sites.

·        Conduct daily inspections of the work environment to identify hazards, unsafe practices, or unsafe conditions, and ensure corrective measures are implemented.

·        Organize and conduct safety inductions, toolbox talks, and refresher trainings for site personnel.

·        Maintain up-to-date HSSE documentation including incident reports, safety audits, inspection checklists, and training logs.

·        Investigate incidents, near misses, and non-conformities, prepare reports, and recommend preventive actions.

·        Ensure that all employees and subcontractors adhere to proper use of PPE and safe work methods.

·        Support site management in developing and reviewing Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and Risk Assessments.

·        Promote continuous improvement in safety performance and foster a positive safety culture on site.

·        Ensure compliance with local occupational safety and environmental regulations.

Qualifications and Experience

·        Diploma or Technician Certificate in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or equivalent qualification from a reputable college or university.

·        OR a Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) from a recognized institution.

·        Minimum 2 years’ experience in HSSE supervision for Diploma holders.

·        Minimum 4 years’ experience for Certificate holders or those with an OHS qualification.

·        Proven experience in building construction and renovation projects is essential.

Contract Duration: 4 Months
