ROLE PURPOSE
The Graduate Trainee – Finance & Accounts will support the Finance team in the execution of accounting, financial reporting, reconciliations, treasury support, compliance, and administrative functions. The programme is designed to provide practical exposure and professional development within a dynamic microfinance environment.
This position offers an excellent opportunity for recent graduates who aspire to pursue professional qualifications such as CA Zambia, ACCA, CIMA, or ZICA and develop a long-term career in finance.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will:
- Capture and post daily financial transactions into the accounting system.
- Maintain accurate cashbook, petty cash, and general ledger records.
- Perform daily cash, bank, and mobile money reconciliations.
- Assist in preparing payment vouchers and ensuring appropriate approvals are obtained.
- Support accounts payable and accounts receivable management.
- Assist in preparing monthly management accounts and financial reports.
- Participate in month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Maintain and update the fixed asset register.
- Support internal and external audit processes.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and internal controls.
- Assist in financial data analysis and report preparation.
- Support regulatory and statutory reporting requirements.
- Provide administrative support to the Finance Department as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Banking & Finance, Economics, or a related field.
- Recent graduate with not more than two (2) years post-graduation experience.
- Grade 12 School Certificate with five (5) credits or better, including English and Mathematics.
- Registration or progression towards CA Zambia, ACCA, CIMA, or ZICA will be an added advantage.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES
- Sound understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
- Familiarity with accounting software packages is an added advantage.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Willingness to learn and adapt in a environment.
