As we continue to grow and strengthen our position within the financial services sector, we are seeking an accomplished and visionary Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join our Executive Leadership Team and contribute to the strategic direction and sustainable growth of the organisation.
ROLE SUMMARY
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and working closely with the Board of Directors, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will provide strategic financial leadership, oversee all financial operations, ensure regulatory compliance, manage financial risks, and drive sustainable profitability and growth.
The CFO will be responsible for developing and implementing the organisation's financial strategy, ensuring sound corporate governance, maintaining strong stakeholder relationships, and providing insightful financial analysis to support strategic decision-making.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Financial Leadership
• Develop and execute the company's financial strategy aligned with organisational goals and growth objectives.
• Serve as a key advisor to the CEO and Board on financial planning, business strategy, investment opportunities, and risk management.
• Lead financial modelling, scenario planning, and strategic forecasting initiatives.
• Support mergers, acquisitions, partnerships, fundraising initiatives, and expansion projects.
Financial Management & Reporting
• Oversee the preparation and presentation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
• Ensure the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of all financial reporting.
• Maintain compliance with IFRS, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
• Monitor financial performance and recommend corrective actions where necessary.
Treasury & Capital Management
• Manage liquidity, cash flow, capital allocation, and funding requirements.
• Develop strategies to optimise capital structure and improve financial sustainability.
• Oversee banking relationships and negotiations with financial institutions.
• Evaluate investment opportunities and financing arrangements.
Risk Management & Compliance
• Establish and maintain enterprise-wide risk management frameworks.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, tax regulations, and financial sector requirements.
• Develop and strengthen internal control systems and governance structures.
• Monitor regulatory developments and advise management on emerging risks and compliance obligations.
Budgeting & Performance Management
• Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process.
• Monitor departmental performance against budgets and strategic targets.
• Develop and implement financial performance metrics and dashboards.
• Drive cost optimisation and operational efficiency initiatives.
Corporate Governance & Stakeholder Management
• Act as the primary liaison with external auditors, regulators, investors, banks, and other stakeholders.
• Prepare Board and Committee financial reports and presentations.
• Support the Board in governance, compliance, and strategic oversight responsibilities.
• Foster transparency, accountability, and ethical financial management across the organisation.
Leadership & Team Development
• Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team.
• Promote a high-performance culture focused on accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
• Build succession plans and strengthen organisational financial capability.
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPIs)
Financial Performance
• Achievement of annual profitability targets.
• Growth in revenue and loan portfolio profitability.
• Cost-to-income ratio maintained within approved thresholds.
• Return on Assets (ROA) and Return on Equity (ROE) improvements.
• Achievement of budgeted EBITDA and net profit targets.
Liquidity & Treasury Management
• Maintenance of adequate liquidity ratios.
• Positive operating cash flow performance.
• Effective management of funding costs and borrowing.
• Compliance with internal liquidity and capital adequacy requirements.
Risk & Compliance
• Zero material regulatory breaches or penalties.
• Timely submission of all statutory, tax, and regulatory returns.
• Successful completion of internal and external audits with minimal findings.
• Reduction in financial control deficiencies and audit exceptions.
Operational Excellence
• Timely monthly financial reporting.
• Accuracy of financial forecasts and budget variance management.
• Successful implementation of financial systems and process improvements.
• Improved efficiency through automation and digitisation initiatives.
Leadership & Strategic Impact
• Finance team performance and retention.
• Successful execution of strategic initiatives approved by the Board.
• Quality and effectiveness of financial insights provided to management.
• Stakeholder satisfaction including regulators, auditors, banks, and investors.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Essential Requirements
• Master's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Professional qualification such as CA Zambia, ACCA, CIMA, CPA, or equivalent.
• Current membership and good standing with the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA).
• Minimum of 10 years relevant financial management experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
• Proven experience within financial services, microfinance, lending, banking, fintech, or credit institutions.
• Demonstrated experience in strategic financial planning and corporate finance.
• Strong knowledge of IFRS, taxation, financial regulations, and corporate governance requirements.
• Advanced proficiency in ERP systems, financial reporting software, and Microsoft Excel.
Preferred Requirements
• MBA or equivalent postgraduate qualification.
• Experience engaging with regulators, investors, Boards, and external stakeholders.
• Experience in fundraising, debt structuring, treasury management, and capital raising.
• Understanding of the regulatory framework applicable to non-bank financial institutions in Zambia.
