Zambia Sugar Plc. is an ABF Sugar Company is the leading Sugar producer in Zambia. Its main activities are the growing of sugar cane, the production and marketing of sugar and other sugar downstream products.
The company invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the following positions in the Estate Support Services Department.
ARTISAN LEAD x 1 – PERMANENT
The position reports to the Maintenance supervisor. The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
Key Performance Areas
- Ensure relevant ABF Ways and legislative and regulatory standards, systems, processes and requirements are met and implemented.
- Effectively manage Civil services and processes that support the core business.
- Supervise Civil maintenance employees in respective discipline to achieve required standards (Maintenance Excellence).
- Be at the centre of driving implementation of the “Illovo Way of Maintenance” (iAMP) to ensure Illovo is the best-in-class sugar producer.
- Hold respective teams accountable to the highest standards of maintenance, ensuring compliance to minimum operating standards.
- Ensure implementation of preventative / reactive maintenance initiatives and plans to reduce costs and incidents.
- Model Leadership behaviours, collaborating, partnering and communicating effectively within and between teams.
- Promote a culture of consistently assessing risks and mitigating them.
- Making proposals or suggestions on engineering cost-effective / reduction measures.
- Seeing to it that left-over material is safely kept for potential reuse.
- Ensuring that work orders are closed/done in accordance with requirements (in terms of quality, usage and specifications) and that, materials are available for the job.
- Ensuring all stakeholders in the business that require the services of Civil Engineering are effectively and satisfactorily attended to.
- Adhere to and promote SHERQ standards.
- Develop schedules for buildings maintenance according to area of responsibility (Factory, Canals, Housing and agree these with the relevant stakeholders.
- Plan and supervise the daily work and performance of each artisan and assign work activity to achieve team and company objectives safely.
- Monitor performance, support and advise artisans teams in solving problems and/or taking corrective action.
- Conduct regular monitoring of works done by the artisans.
- Supervise the performance of contractors against agreed SLAs to ensure completion of work to quality and safety standards.
- Provide artisans and assistants with necessary tools and equipment to perform work effectively and manage the use and maintenance of such equipment.
- Ensure Plant, Equipment and BOM information and WO’s are submitted to the Estate Maintenance Supervisor for accurate capturing within CMMS.
- Identify and mitigate operational risks in area of responsibility and inform the Estate Maintenance Supervisor.
- Identify and monitor KPIs to track performance for teams and flag any issues
- Maintain records as required for reporting in area of responsibility.
- Provide input into Estate Support maintenance budgets and manage costs to ensure adherence to budgets and cost saving where possible.
- Identify areas where service and performance can be improved and handover to the Estate Maintenance Supervisor to manage the implementation of systems and processes to make improvements.
- Promote and adhere to Illovo’s procedures, policies and guidelines, including, without limitation, those relating to SHERQ, Competition Law and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC)
Minimum specifications / Requirements areas
- Full Grade 12 Certificate.
- Crafts Certificate in Building Construction or equivalent.
- Preferably 5 years’ experience in maintenance planning and team management.
- Sound technical skills, with an understanding of the Estate infrastructure and requirements. Experience in contractor management or facilities management is preferred.
- Leadership capabilities to ensure a cohesive team; good communication skills to be able to interact with team and Estate residents; proactive, with good planning skills and the ability to think ahead.
- Suitably qualified applicants must submit certificates verified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
