Purpose of the Job
The Accounts Officer, Grants is responsible for supporting the financial management of grant-funded programmes by ensuring accurate recording, monitoring, and reporting of grant-related financial transactions. The role contributes to maintaining compliance with donor requirements, organisational financial policies, and applicable regulations. The position works closely with the Grants Management and Programme teams to ensure proper utilization of funds, timely financial reporting, and accountability in grant implementation.
Key Responsibilities
1. Process and record grant-related financial transactions in accordance with donor requirements and organisational policies.
2. Support the preparation and maintenance of grant budgets and financial tracking tools.
3. Monitor grant expenditure against approved budgets and highlight variances.
4. Provide financial data to support programme and grants reporting requirements.
5. Ensure that all grant-related transactions comply with donor agreements, financial guidelines, and reporting requirements.
6. Support the processing and tracking of grant disbursements to partners in line with approved agreements.
7. Assist in reconciling grant accounts, including bank reconciliations where applicable.
8. Maintain organised and up-to-date records of all grant financial documents including contracts, budgets, reports, and supporting documentation.
9. Provide accurate information required for performance management processes and participate in performance discussions.
Job Mission
Keep abreast of developments in grant financial management and donor compliance requirements while maintaining the highest standards of accuracy, integrity, and accountability.
Perform any other related duties that the accountant may reasonably request from time to time.
Qualifications
1. Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
2.Part qualification in professional accounting bodies such as ACCA or ZICA is an added advantage.
Experience
3. Minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in accounting or finance, preferably in grant or donor-funded environments.
4. Experience in financial reporting, budgeting, and reconciliations.
5. Experience working with donor compliance requirements is an added advantage.
